FT. MYERS, Fla — Ft. Myers Police identified a mother and son found dead their home Thursday .

Police responded to 1429 Floral Drive after a neighbor could not get a hold of 41-year-old Kenya Ellis, she was found dead in her home along with her 10-year-old son Julian Ellis.

Investigators have not determined a cause of death, but say the community is not in any danger. As a memorial outside the home grows, neighbors are shocked.

“Especially with how quiet it is, I actually like the neighborhood, that's why we picked here, so hearing that from you is kind of shocking,” said Joey Wilson, who just moved into the community.

Lee County Schools says Kenya was a para-professional with the Head Start program at J. Colin English Elementary in North Ft. Myers. Her son, Julian, went to class at Allen Park Elementary not far from downtown Fort Myers.

The district sent out a letter to parents saying in part:

“Our thoughts are with Kenya and her family during this difficult time, and with our students and parents who knew her."

Parents also received a tip sheet on helping their kids cope with the loss of a friend or loved one.
