NAPLES, Fla. — The NCH Healthcare System has received $5 million to build and equip the Judith and Marvin Herb Family Simulation Center at the NCH Baker Downtown Hospital in Naples.

The donation comes from community philanthropists Judy and Marvin Herb.

NCH says the center will educate new staff while working on teamwork, communication skills and quality improvement.

“We want to make sure that NCH is a first-class hospital, and this is a way to develop that for the community if it wants to maintain the high standards of this hospital,” said Marvin Herb. “This is how you’re going to effectively train the physicians of the future, with a hands-on operation, not just theory and book learning.”

More specifically, the center will teach staff everything from basic medical problems to critical life-threatening situations, through procedural skills to scenario-based training.
