FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fire crews are working to control a mulch fire that was reported in Fort Myers Saturday around 2:30 p.m.

The fire is at the MW Horticulture Recycling Facility on Thomas Road. That's just off Michael G. Rippe Parkway just north of Alico Road.

Five acres have been contained but are not currently under control. According to the San Carlos Park Fire District the fire started with one acre and then spread to five acres. There have been no evacuations.

People with respiratory issues are cautioned to stay indoors due to heavy smoke.

The plant is currently cooperating with the fire department to fully control the blaze. Teams will work through the night, the fire department said.
