Motorist charged with aggravated assault after confronting driver with Airsoft gun

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol says they have arrested an eighteen-year-old from Cape Coral accused of brandishing a gun at another motorist.

According to FHP, the motorist approached a Troop asking for help. The victim told troopers another driver confronted him and showed a firearm.

The incident occurred on Meridian Center Parkway.

Troopers were able to quickly locate the driver, Zachary Latham, on Alico Road.

Troopers searched the Infinity Latham was driving. Through the investigation, Troopers discovered a black Airsoft bb gun (resembling a real firearm - similar to an AK 47 in appearance) and placed Latham under arrest for Aggravated Assault (Felony).

Latham was also charged with a second count of Aggravated Assault for attempting to ram the victim’s vehicle intentionally.

Zachary is no stranger to the law. Fox 4 has learned Latham is originally from New Jersey.

According to the Cumberland County Prosecutors Office in New Jersey, Latham was charged with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter, second-degree Aggravated Assault, and related weapon offenses in connection with the homicide of William T. Durham, Sr., 51, also of Thornhill Road.

Prosecutors say on May 4, 2020, officers from the Vineland Police Department responded to Thornhill Road in Vineland for an altercation and stabbing.

The victim allegedly died from his injuries caused by Latham.
