Motorcyclist killed in crash on Tamiami Trial in Naples Sunday night

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. -- Troopers say a New Jersey man died Sunday night in Naples when a car turned in front of his motorcycle on Tamiami Trail.

It happened around 8 p.m. on Tamiami Trail in the Naples Manor area.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was headed northbound on Tamiami Trail near Entrance Street when a southbound car made a u-turn onto the northbound lanes directly into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle hit the rear of the car.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 37-year-old Michael J. Defilippis of Hackensack, New Jersey.

The car's driver, 56-year-old Gina Gilberto of Naples, sustained minor injury and was treated at NCH Downtown.

The crash is still under investigation.
