CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- One mother is left to raise six kids alone after her husband died in a motorcycle accident, Monday. She speaks to Fox 4 about how her family is trying to move on.
“He woke up and kind of groggily gave me this half-asleep kiss. And that was it, that was the last time I saw him," said Tiffany Bannworth describing the last moment she was with her husband, Stephen.
Stephen, 36, was riding his motorcycle near Landing View Rd and Metro Parkway when he veered off the road. Bannworth says he was wearing his full armor and helmet, but that wasn't enough to save him when he flew nearly "100 feet."
“When I got off the phone, I told the teacher sitting across from me, 'I think my husband just died.'”
Stephen later passed away at Lee Memorial Hospital from internal bleeding. Mrs. Bannworth said she waited a full day before telling her kids, who were waiting to hear a motorcycle come home.
“He was like, 'Where’s dad?’ And I was like, 'dad got really hurt last night,' and he said, ‘did he die?’ And I said, 'yes.'”
Since the accident, Bannworth's boss started a GoFundMe Page. In the last six days, the community has raised over $10,000 for the family.
“If you met the guy it was easy to fall in love with him," said Bannworth. "We have a hole in our heart that is missing.”
