US Coast Guard terminate MERT command Marco Island

MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — UPDATE (11:05 pm) -- The Coast Guard has terminated command.

Area of the unknown aircraft distress alarm has been thoroughly searched with no findings or debris field.

All vessels are returning to base.


The Marco Island Fire Rescue initiated the MERT command for an unknown aircraft distress alarm going off 13 miles west of Marco Island, approximately one hour ago.

Upon arrival, they noted heavy fog conditions less than one-hundred-yard visibility.

First responders are on the scene currently searching for a possible debris field.
