LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A man who was accused of stealing a golf cart and causing trouble on the runway at Page Field has been sentenced to 48 months of probation.
42-year-old Robert Gallegos stole a golf cart belonging to the airport and went on a joy ride.
He drove it onto the runway, which prevented a plane from being able to land.
The plane had to do another lap until it was safe to land. Gallegos crashed the golf cart and took off running.
He ran to a nearby party store at Page Field Commons and was captured inside by law enforcement who had to use a taser to get him under control.
The defendant must do an 18-month residential drug treatment program, and a substance abuse evaluation with follow up treatment.
He must also stay away from the airport and pay restitution.
