FORT MYERS, Fla. –Police said a man stole his Uber driver's car Thursday morning in Fort Myers.

It happened at around 1:45AM outside the 7-Eleven located at the corner of Evans Avenue and Martin Luther King Blvd.

The Uber driver said after he picked up a passenger, he made a quick stop at the 7-Eleven to get some change.

However, once he walked inside, he said the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and took off with his car.

The driver said he was heading to Cape Coral where the passenger wanted to be dropped off.

When he stopped to get change at the gas station, he left his keys in the ignition.

Fox 4 spoke with the clerk inside the 7-Eleven. He said the Uber driver and Fort Myers police were able to get in contact with the man who stole the car through the Uber app.

He overheard police telling the man that the victim won’t press charges if he gives the car back.

About 45 minutes later, the clerk said the man came back to the 7-Eleven and returned the car to the Uber driver.

Right now, we are working to get the information confirmed by police.
