A Naples man said that he made a nasty discovery Wednesday morning, when he saw - and smelled sewage coming out of a manhole in front of his home. But what concerned him the most was that the sewage flowed into Haldeman Creek, which is right next to his home at the end of Sandpiper Street. The creek is part of the Naples Bay/Gordon River estuary.

"Unfortunately the curb that they have on Sandpiper Street diverted the sewage from going through the mangrove shoreline," said Gary Kluckhuhn, who recorded video of the spill. "The curb channels it right into the creek."

Kluckhuhn said that the creek is already polluted with chemical runoff from local communities, and that the sewage spill only added to the problem.

He called the City of Naples regarding the sewage spill, and said that city workers came out right away and fixed the problem.

"Evidently the sewer line is one that was laid in the sixties," Kluckhuhn said. "There was a stoppage."
