LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. - A Lee County man was in the middle of laundry when thieves struck. The victim rolled back to his apartment and that's when thieves ran into the doorway.

"When thieves want to get in, they're going to get in," Jose Rodriguez said. Rodriguez lives across from where the robbery happened. He noticed several deputy patrol cars on the street.

The two robbers knocked the victim out of his wheelchair when they stormed into his apartment. They took cash from the wheelchair's cushion before they went to another room.

"Unbelievable. Things are bad out there," Rodriguez said.

One of the robbers kept the man pinned to the floor. He then used a pillow and put it over the victim's face. The report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office read that the robber called out to his partner for the gun so he could kill the victim.

"Why would someone do that to someone who is in a wheelchair in the first place," Shirley Figueroa said.

The victim's friend then entered the apartment. The two robbers took off when she asked what they were doing.

Rodriguez hopes justice catches up to the pair of crooks.

"You're going to get caught somewhere along the line," Rodriguez said. "You'll pay for your penalties," he added.

The two robbers ran towards E 5th Street and got into a gray, four-door Jaguar. Witnesses told deputies the car drove off westbound on E 5th Street.
