CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A Port Charlotte man was arrested and charged for leaving the scene of an accident with an injury back in February.
The Florid Fish and Wildlife Commission says Robert Barnhart 75; the collision took place near the mouth of Jug Creek in Lee County.
Barnhart was traveling Northeast on a full plane traveling at approximately 25 knots. He collided with Richard Niehaus who was driving an 18 foot Sea Squirt that rolled.
A Good Samaritan saw Niehaus in the water and pulled him onto their vessel. They called 911 and performed CPR.
Barnhart never stopped or slowed to assist. Barnhart continued his journey to his residence on the Peace River.
Once he returned home, he put V2 Rampage onto the lift and observed the damage.
Robert L. Barnhart was booked into the Charlotte County jail for:
• Leaving the scene of an accident without giving aid
• Violation of Navigation Rule Resulting in An Accident
