LEE COUNTY, Fla. --- Mail carriers in Lee County are gearing up to feed family's through the nation's largest single-day food drive, "Stomp Out Hunger."
The event will be held on Saturday and is the one day when mail carriers collect non-perishable food that has been left by mailboxes.
Most food collected in Lee County will be distributed by the Harry Chapin Food Bank through their participating agencies in the county.
The following items are needed:
- Peanut Butter
- Tuna
- Rice
- Beans
- Canned meats
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Soups
Those who aren't able to leave food next to their mailboxes can drop off contributions at any Post Office.
Volunteers are needed to help collect food and to help sort the food once it has been collected. Volunteers wishing to assist mail carriers with their preliminary food sorting should contact Tanya Phillips at Harry Chapin Food Bank, (239) 334-7007.
