LEE COUNTY Fla. -- A Southwest Florida trooper and a detective have been honored for their heroics during Hurricane Irma.
Florida Highway Patrol Corporal John Schultz and forensics detective Barry Lewis both received the governor's "Medal of Heroism."
On September 10th, Lieutenant Greg Bueno and his family took shelter from the hurricane at his Fort Myers home. But when the ceiling collapsed in the home and the house was surrounded by flood water, Corporal Schultz and Detective Lewis rushed into the flooded neighborhood and saved the whole family.
“I’m proud to recognize Corporal Schultz and Detective Lewis and their heroic actions with the Medal of Heroism today," said Florida Governor Rick Scott. "Our service men and women constantly put themselves in danger to help their fellow Floridians, and we should take every opportunity to thank them for their selfless actions to save lives before, during and following Hurricane Irma.”
