FORT MYERS, Fla. — A local dog rescue is holding a charity event to raise money so they can help more dogs.

Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue is hosting a charity Poker Run. It starts Saturday, March 27th, at 10 AM at Stu's Motorcycle's in Fort Myers. From there, you go to local businesses, collect poker cards, and have the chance to win cash prizes. The best poker hand wins $250, and the worst hand wins $100.

Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue's Founder, Victoria Frazier, said she hopes you'll come to the event to help them further their mission.

"We founded it back in 2013, and since then, our mission has been to take on the worst of the worst cases. And because we have such a great support system of fosters and our local community, and far beyond our community, that support our mission, we are able to do so," she said.

One of the event organizers, Samantha Kellum, said she got involved with the rescue in 2018 as a foster.

"It was because I kept seeing that they were fostering like the worst medical cases; dogs at shelters that needed immediate help, that the shelters couldn't provide. And so we would pull them and give them that care and a foster home until they were ready for their new journey into their forever home," she said.

Kellum said you first register for the event at Stu's Motorcycles.

"Then we go to three locations of people that have volunteered to let us bring them business, and they pick up a poker card. And then when they return back to Stu's at the end of the event. There's a prize for best hand, worst hand, and then we're going to have a special card that if you draw that, you also get a small prize," Kellum said. "It's all in hopes that a lot of people come out and support local businesses, because we'll have vendors that are there, and to raise money for the dogs."

Kellum and Frazier said the event will be COVID-safe. It starts at 10 AM, and you have to be back to Stu's Motorcycles by 4 PM. You can participate by car or motorcycle. It costs $20 per vehicle or couple, then $10 for each additional person.
