LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The fishing pier at Matlacha Park, 4577 Pine Island Road, will re-open to the public at noon Friday, Jan. 29.

The pier, originally built more than 50 years ago, has been closed since July 2018 as part of a project to rebuild it, including replacing the existing pier as well as adding benches, garbage cans, lighting, fish cleaning stations and ADA accessible features.

The $833,805 cost of the replacement was funded largely through Tourist Development Taxes collected on short-term lodging.

The Matlacha Fishing Pier is part of the nine-acre Matlacha Community Park located along Matlacha Pass. This body of water is famous for catching snook, redfish as well as other local varieties of fish.
