FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The Fort Myers Beach Fire Chief has resigned, Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District announced today.
Chief Ronald Martin submitted his letter of resignation, effective today, after many years of public service. He cited personal reasons for his resignation.
District Chief Scott Wirth will be serving as the Acting Fire Chief, FMBFD said.
Wirth gave the following statement:
For nearly twenty years, Chief Martin served the Fort Myers Beach community with caring, professional service. Chief Martin started as a Firefighter and moved through the ranks to Fire Chief where he led the department through, arguably, the worst natural disaster in Lee County’s history. Today, Chief Martin notified the District that his time with Fort Myers Beach Fire had come to an end. Chief Martin submitted his resignation citing personal reasons.
I want to thank Chief Martin for his service to the citizens and for his leadership as Fire Chief. Chief Martin truly helped the District progress and he will be missed by all of us. On behalf of the entire FMBFD family, we wish him the best as he looks towards the future.
