FORT MYERS, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol is still searching for the driver they believe hit and killed a 55-year-old Wisconsin woman near Fort Myers Beach Tuesday night.
At our sister station in Madison, Wisconsin, WMSN confirmed that the victim was Mary Reed, a beloved bartender from the Madison area.
FHP said the hit and run driver in the case has not been caught and was driving a white or light color sedan.
Around 7:30 pm Tuesday evening, the victim, who our sister station confirmed as Reed was trying to cross San Carlos Boulevard when she was hit. According to troopers, another driver tried to swerve, and reportedly also hit her; however, this driver stopped to help the woman.
Wednesday morning, FHP released a video of the car at the time of the crash fleeing the scene.
Reed was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
