The Lee County School Board is expected to reject arming teachers at Tuesday night's board meeting.
According to their agenda, the county doesn't need to arm teachers to keep students safe.
The board wrote, "the School Board has determined, after input from its law enforcement partners, that trained, certified law enforcement officers (School Resource Officers) will fulfill the requirement of safe-school officers in the schools of the School District of Lee County."
Using SRO's to keep schools secure follows the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act that was passed in response to the Stoneman Douglas high school attack that killed 17 people.
If you would like to voice your opinion on the subject, the board is meeting Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Lee Public Education Center on Colonial Boulevard.
