LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Lee County has completed its acquisition of 427 acres of land in Alva.

The parcel is located south of State Road 80, less than a mile west of Hickey Creek Mitigation Park.

The county said the acquisition adds to a large area of existing conservation land in northeast Lee County, which protects an area around 6 miles wide and 3 miles long. The county approved the purchase of the landing---costing $4.4 million-- back in August last year.

The county says the land was purchased from Amtel Farms Inc., and will be known as Oak Hammock Preserve. They say they're planning to build hiking trails on the preserve.

The county says the preserve will be the 51st acquired by the county as part of their Conservation 20/20 preserve program.
