FORT MYERS, Fla.-- The trial for the "Lake Boyz" is set to continue on Friday, July 20th.

The jury heard opening statements Thursday. The defense tried to cast doubt about investigators being able to prove racketeering charges against the young suspects.

Last year, 21 suspected members of the "Lake Boyz" were arrested. They were charged with racketeering and corruption under a law that used to help crack down on organized crime.

UPDATE (10:15AM): The second day of the Lake Boyz trial was Friday morning, but only lasted 20 minutes.  That’s because of drama that happened on the first day.

One of the defendant’s attorney, Joe Viacava, had a medical issue during the trial and had to be transported to the hospital.

Friday, his law firm asked Judge Bruce Kyle in court if the trial can be continued to Monday.  They said Viacava should be back on Monday to represent James Brown.

The judge agreed.

There was also more jury drama after one juror was dismissed Thursday.

A juror says his wife is in the hospital but told the judge he will be in court Monday morning.

The trial will resume at 9am Monday.
