ESTERO, Fla. -- The family of a missing 9-year-old girl, Diana Alvarez, has hired a private investigator to try to solve their case. She's been gone since May 2016 and the investigator says he needs the communities help.

“We’re private investigators, we don’t care about illegal status. We’re here to try to solve a case. And we’re certainly not going to share your status with police," said Walter Zalisko, explaining that illegal immigration status is a big reason many witnesses have not come forward.

Diana was last seen at 2 a.m at her house in San Carlos Park. Zalisko says his primary suspect is Jorge Guerrero and evidence has shown he was having a sexual relationship with the minor. Guerrero is currently serving a 40-year sentence for child pornography.

The investigator explained his work is just beginning. While he thinks finding Diana's body will be difficult, he hopes to bring closure to the family.

“They want to know whether she’s dead or alive.”
