Boat crew member rescued 70 miles Southwest of Marco Island now deceased

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Fox4 is working on a story approximately 70 miles Southwest of Marco Island.

The Coast Guard received a call about a crew member on a 34-foot fishing vessel who suffered a head injury.

Rescue was dispatched, and an aircrew arrived on scene. A rescue swimmer reported the man to be unresponsive and appeared to be deceased.

The fishing vessel was escorted to the vessel station on Fort Myers Beach. Marine Casualty Investigating Officers from Sector St. Petersburg conducted a marine casualty inspection and were assisted by Coast Guard Investigative Services, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The crew member was pronounced deceased . The victims name has not been released. An investigation is still ongoing.
