BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.-- The City of Bonita Springs may spend millions of dollars to protect the city from future flooding.
Several streets in Bonita were underwater for weeks, after Hurricane Irma made the Imperial River overflow.
Now, the city council is considering a plan to spend more than $19 million to improve the river's drainage systems.
One idea would be to build a permanent conveyance system that would send water south into Collier County when water levels rise.
