IMMOKALEE, Fla — The results are in, and Immokalee has chosen a winner for the new welcome sign.
"Field of Dreams" by Martha M. Cantu was announced as the winner.
Last month, the Immokalee Community Redevelopment Agency asked local artists to submit design proposals.
The community was not happy after the original sign was redone.
Community members had the chance to participate in a survey to pick which design they thought would represent Immokalee.
The Immokalee Beautification Municipal Service Taxing Unit received over 4,500 responses, and "Field of Dreams" came out on top.
The artist Martha M. Cantu has been a resident of Immokalee for 34 years.
She says even though she was born in Mexico, she considers the colorful town of Immokalee as her home.
"Immokalee is where I grew up," Cantu says.
"Where I went to school and where I found my love for many of the things I hold dear today."
