LEE COUNTY, Fla. — This year, Veterans Day seemed to be overcast by hurricane season.
Now, local veterans are being celebrated all week.
Cape coral parks and recreation held a breakfast Thursday to celebrate those who have served our nation.
Our very own Lisa Greenberg was part of the event reading the bios of the veterans.
The event was held in place of the canceled drive-in parade at Sun Splash.
The "Welcome Home Vietnam Vets 2020" at Veterans Park in Punta Gorda is underway.
Over 40 volunteer groups are reading the names on the Vietnam Memorial of Southwest Florida.
The public is invited to stop by, reflect, and listen to the names being ready daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
When the last name is read Friday at noon, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony and a gun salute.
A parade kicks off Saturday in Port Charlotte at 9 a.m.
The parade will have over 600 participants with floats, marching bands from local high schools, special guests, marchers, Huey helicopters in the air and Vietnam veterans.
It will start at the Port Charlotte beach complex.
