FORT MYERS, Fla. — Hundreds of participants will climb 31 flights of stairs, or 535 steps, on Saturday in Fort Myers during the Fight for Air Climb, an annual fundraiser for lung disease research by the American Lung Association.

This is the ninth annual climb. Many local firefighters will climb in full gear, weighing over 45 pounds, to show their support. Firefighters can be more at risk for lung disease due to the exposure of gases, chemicals and smoke in the line of duty.

Other law enforcement officers, including police and military, will also participate in uniform.

The Fight for Air Climb is located at Oasis Grand Tower One in Fort Myers and begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Registration is $25 per person. You can register alone or with a team. There is a $100 fundraising minimum. For more details, click here.
