NAPLES, Fla. — Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Collier County Courthouse to protest police brutality.

In response to the killing of 46-year-old George Floyd in Minneapolis last week, protestors pleaded for equality.

“I have black people black men in my life, I’m scared, that just for walking outside or jogging, or doing anything that they need to do just to exist is a problem that they may be gunned down.”

As seen around the country, people are rallying for justice.

“People are fed up, people are over it. Every month every week you are hearing a story.. not a lot of it gets coverage, but this is happening is everyday…the only difference is now its on film, ” said Tonicia Morgan

A former police officer has now been charged in the death of George Floyd.
Many protestors are now calling for the other Minneapolis officers involved to also be charged.

“We need to unite we need to come together, I don’t want to be scared anymore.”

The protest started in silence, as people kneeled in solidarity.

“It signifies that we’re peaceful and that we want harm to stop coming to black people in America, ”, said Katie Mead.

Protestor Junior Gordan says its time for everyone to stand up for what’s right.

“It is not just people of color its for everyone.. its everyone against racism, ” said Gordan.

One protester hoping that this movement sparks change.

“We need to be there for people of color and black people right now...the racism in America needs to stop and America is finally waking up to that, ” said Katie Mead.

The president of the Collier County chapter of the NAACP says they plan to host another rally next Wednesday starting at 6pm on the steps of the Collier County Courthouse.
