MATLACHA, Fla. — Local business owners in Matlacha say enough is enough. Carmen Driscoll the owner of Carmens Kayaks, says she heard a crash from her home around 2 am Friday morning and got a call 90 minutes later saying she was the victim.

“A truck, we now know because we have the video, came down going west on Pine Island Road, and he veered right here at the pedestrian crosswalk. All of a sudden, took a 90 degree turn, went through the mailbox stop sign, Matlacha park sign, hit my truck, bounced off my truck, and ran straight into the side if blue dog restaurant”, said Carmen Driscoll.

She says she wasn't surprised when she got the call.

“And that’s really sad to say but there has been so many hit and runs on the news lately, I was like well, it doesn’t surprise me you know, my second thought is I’m just glad no one was hurt”, said Driscoll.

Driscoll obtained camera footage from a nearby business owner and is working with Lee County Sheriffs Deputies to hopefully track the driver down.

“We got the footage right away, and I showed it to Lee County Sheriffs Department. They took the footage, and they were happy because it gave us a timeline, and now they can check like the license plate video right here in Matlacha, and other local businesses camera, and we know exactly what time they hit us”, said Driscoll.

She says she hopes anyone who witnessed the crash or has surveillance footage will come forward. All she wants is for someone to take responsibility.

“He was following a white suburban truck in the video, and that truck knows something too, they had to have seen it, but he hit the building, and he just backed out. We have it on video and we have a couple of other local businesses who are going to give us more video and hopefully find out who it was”, said Driscoll. Right now Driscoll says the damages could be in the thousands.
