Woman held at gunpoint in attempted home invasion robbery in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. — UPDATE : Fort Myers Police Officers responded Saturday evening to an attempted home invasion robbery. They tell us a woman inside a home was held at gunpoint.

Police were in full tactical gear repeatedly asking the gunman to come outside of the house.

He refused to cooperate.

That's when a SWAT team and K-9 units were sent in to locate the gunman.

Fox 4 was the first to talk to the woman held at gunpoint. “ I go to sit in our backroom to smoke a cigarette and I feel a gun get pointed to my head, and someone tell me to stand up. ” she said.

She told us she feared for her life and was certain she was going to die.

Neighbors in the area also tell us they are in fear and are shaken up by the entire incident.

“They fight all the time, so for me, this was ahead that was waiting to happen, so I don’t know, I don’t know what going on, I want to know, I'm concerned about the other people that live in the neighborhood,” said one neighbor.

Right now we are working to gather more details about what happened there.

We do know that no one was injured.

Though a gunman is on the loose, police are saying that this was an isolated incident and the public is not in danger.

There is an active standoff in Fort Myers on Oakley Ave. Fort Myers Police are on scene in front a house yelling, "Come out with hands up. We don’t want to hurt you.”
