Sam Sirianni Sr., known as "Coach Sam", was the head coach for the Fort Myers High School football program for almost five decades. He began coaching in 1959 and led the team to numerous championship games. His son, Sam Sirianni Jr. took over his fathers position in 2002 after he died from a rare form of cancer.

The cancer was attached to Sam Sirianni Sr.'s umbilical cord. When doctors tried to remove the tumor, the cancer spread rapidly.

In 2002, the superintendent of Fort Myers High School offered Sam Sirianni Jr. the head coach position.

While Sam Sirianni Jr is coaching for Fort Myers High School, his daughter, Stephanie Sirianni is teaching for the Green Waves.

October 4th 2018 marked the 16th year of Coach Sam's passing, he was 64 years old.
