The Cape Coral Police Department hosted FOX 4's Rachael O'Neil for a ride along on Halloween. Officer Yordan Perez showed the ropes of keeping the community safe, especially on a holiday known for chaos and even danger.

The ride along lasted about three hours. within the time span, O'Neil and Perez visited communities like Sandoval and Pelican Boulevard.

Perez explained that police officers have to look out for "suspicious behavior, strange activity, and suspicious people."

While on the ride along, O'Neil and Perez spotted a local church passing out free hot dogs, water, and candy. Member Jamie Boye says she does this "to show the kids how much they mean to the community." She also says she "appreciates the police officers sacrificing their time and risking their lives to serve the city."

Perez suggests that trick-or-treaters should stick to celebrating in gated communities for a safer and more secured experience.
