LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A suspect with an extensive criminal history is now facing numerous additional charges after the Lee County Sheriff's Office says he tried to run over a deputy while fleeing.

28-year-old Litray Bell has been booked into the Lee County Jail on charges of Aggravated Battery on an Officer, Fleeing and Eluding, Hit and Run, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Driving while License Suspended, and drug charges.

According to the sheriff's office, Bell was the subject of an ongoing narcotics investigation when deputies approached him near the Coconut Point Mall on Tuesday.  That's when they say Bell jumped in his car, disregarding orders to stop, and started to drive off.

While driving away, Bell's car hit a deputy on the knee, and that deputy fired his handgun at Bell, striking him in the arm.

The ensuing chase passed along Tamiami Trail, Coconut Road, Three Oaks Parkway, and Corkscrew Road, with Bell's car striking three other vehicles along the way, and Bell pointing a handgun at deputies at times.

The pursuit ended at a residence on Burgundy Farm Road, where Bell later surrendered to deputies.

Bell has numerous arrests on his record, including charges of fleeing to elude in 2009, twice in 2011, 2013, and 2016.

The injured detective was treated and released from a local hospital.
