A local gun shop is paying for buses to get people to and from a pro-gun rally at our state's Capitol. This rally is happening at the same time as others across the country.
The "Americans for America" rallies are being organized by the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans. They will be held at state capitols across the country on April 14th, three weeks after the March For Our Lives rallies, which were calling for gun control after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting killed 17 students and staff members.
"It's absolutely true that something needs to be done to protect our children, but infringing on my constitutional rights as a law abiding citizen isn't the answer," Matt Johnson of the National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans said.
Kevin Uhlin lives in Cape Coral and plans to go to the rally in support of the Second Amendment.
"I've written, I've called. It's just time to show up," Uhlin said.
"We're tired of our voices not being heard here locally, and we're taking a stand to let our politicians know that, hey, we support the Second Amendment, and we won't stand for unconstitutional laws being passed," Johnson said.
"It's not so much of a gun problem, it's a person problem. It's a lack of human respect, and a lack of morals, and a lack of consequences," Uhlin said.
Shoot Straight, a gun shop with nine locations across Florida, including one in Fort Myers, is paying for buses to get people from all over the state to the Americans for American rally.
"For those that don't have transportation, for Shoot Straight to provide it, I think that's just amazing," Uhlin said. "I'll be a part of the mass, and have a voice. I don't want to carry my AR-15, I just want to be on hand and part of this crowd."
Shoot Straight has locations in:
