NAPLES, Fla. --- Governor Rick Scott awarded Florida veterans, Friday, honoring their service to the state and nation.
More than 45 of Florida veterans were given the Governor's Veterans Service Medal at the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
The following Florida veterans were highlighted during today's ceremony:
- Chief Jim Williams served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1996 and served as the Deputy Inspector General of the Marine Corps and the Secretary of the Navy's Senior Investigator.
- Lieutenant Gary Martin joined the United States Air Force in 1985 and served for 6 years before joining the Collier County Sheriff's Office in 1991. In 2013, he was deployed to Afghanistan for 9 months. After deployment, Lieutenant Martin returned to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, where he continues to serve today.
Since 2013, Governor Scott has awarded more than 13,000 veterans with the Governor's Veterans Service Medal.
