FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Police Department is remembering an officer who died in the line of duty 11 years ago.
Officer Andrew Widman was killed back in 2008 while responding to a domestic dispute in downtown Fort Myers.
His accused killer, an illegal immigrant, was out on bail at the time of the shooting and had a warrant out for his arrest.
In response, the state passed the Widman Act a law which keeps convicted felons who violate
Probation off the streets until their parole officer can review the case.
