FORT MYERS, Fla. — Fort Myers police are investigating a fatal crash on Sunday night involving a pedestrian.

Police said when they arrived on the scene around 9:00 pm, the male pedestrian was dead.

Sgt. Ramy Moussa said the vehicle that struck the man was a maroon minivan. He added that the driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.

FMPD says the fatal vehicle vs pedestrian traffic crash happened on Fowler Street at Edison Avenue.

"We are still having interviews, hopefully we can locate some witnesses. We don't believe alcohol or speed was a factor. We have to look and see if the pedestrian used a crosswalk or not," Sgt. Moussa said. "It was a little dark at that intersection so that could also be a contributing factor."

Fowler Street was closed in both directions from Edison Avenue to Lafayette Street.

An investigation is ongoing
