FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers City Council will be discussing a $3 million contract to upgrade body cams, car cams, and tasers at the City Council meeting at 4:30 pm.
FMPD currently has five separate five-year contracts with Axon all running on different dates due to the steady expansion of the camera and taser platforms.
In total, the city will pay $2,533,162 over the life of the current contracts.
The new contract will consolidate all existing contracts for a term of 5 years and a total of $2,999,997.
With the increased cost, the agency will receive the latest technology for camera systems and tasers while greatly expanding our licenses and cloud storage as well as other things such as instructor licenses and unlimited taser cartridges and batteries.
The five year term will be structured in a way that no new funding will need to be added to this Fiscal year and the remaining years can be accounted for during the normal budgeting process.
No Fiscal impact to 2021 based on the year 1 payment being in line with the current contract amount payment remaining.
The money will come from the Fort Myers Police Department General Operating Fund Contractual Services
