Former Lee County doctor gets one year for sexual assault on patient, must give up medical license

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Lee County doctor who sexually assaulted patients during surgery accepted a plea deal Tuesday.

56-year-old Asif Choudhury will spend about a year in prison and then 10 years of probation.

He also has to surrender his medical license and register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Back in 2017, a nurse reporting seeing the doctor sexually assault a patient. The nurse immediately told her supervisor. Later in the day, she says she saw him do it to another patient.

He was arrested in January 2018 and charged with sexual assault.

Choudhury told deputies what he did was part of the procedure, and not sexual in nature.
