FORT MYERS — Police are on the lookout for a drive-by shooting suspect in Fort Myers.

The whole thing was caught on video, and FMPD has now released that footage to the public. The shooting happened on Ford St. as two cars were pulling up to turn onto Winkler Ave. When the shooter started firing, a camera perched at the intersection down the street caught it all on video.

The footage shows sparks flying as the driver of one car fires at the other. In a period of 5 seconds, the shooter unloads 15 shots at the victim. Then, as you follow the victim’s car, it swerves, trying to stay on the road. We learned the driver was later taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

“It’s just nice to know that they got video of it, which is a big difference," said Kellyn Karr, who owns Karr Automotive, just down the street from where the shooting happened.

Karr said, this isn’t the first time they’ve had violence in the neighborhood.

"We’ve had a shootout before, during the day, which we actually heard from here, and that was pretty unsettling and the police presence was pretty rapid," said Karr.

Karr said, this new incident makes two shootings in the past year. We asked what he’d like to see from police.

“Constant patrols is nice. Just to see the police presence, just to know there’s cops driving by," said Karr.

The best shot of the shooter’s car comes at the very end of the video, right before he drives out of the frame. Karr said, he hopes the footage can help police track down the suspect to keep his neighborhood safer.

Police are asking the public for help in tracking that shooter down. If you know anything, FMPD is asking that you to contact Detective Maalisa Langton at (239) 321-8015.
