Voter registration deadlines are quickly approaching.

Make sure that you counted in the March 17th primary election.

Fox 4 spoke to a local expert about the importance of utilizing your 15th amendment right.

Lance Wissinger of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition says the organization has made it their mission to register and educate as many citizens as possible for the upcoming elections.

“There’s a lot of misconception that voting doesn’t really matter but in all actuality that is the only thing that we can actually make change with, ” said Lance Wissinger.

The deadline to vote in the presidential preference primary is February 18th, exactly 29 days before the March 17thb election day.

Wissinger says it’s just as important to vote in the primaries as it is in the general election.

“Where you really want to make a change is in your local election, that’s where you are going to see where your vote actually counts, ” says Wissinger.

According to the Florida Division of Elections, the state of Florida had over 13 million registered voters in 2019, and because of the passing of amendment 4, that number continues to rise.

“The biggest available right now are returning citizens, people who just got there right to vote back, ” said Lance Wissinger.

He says that accounts for nearly 900-thousand people now eligible to vote.

In making sure the public is aware of deadlines, rights & regulations, Wissinger says its just one step closer to making sure our voices are heard.

“Across the board, it’s the people that matter not the party, ” said Lance Wissinger.
