FORT MYERS, Fla. — Family and friends of 63-year-old Anita Johnson have been left devastated by her sudden death.

The boyfriend of Johnson shared pictures of her and her beloved dog killed Wednesday night in a hit- and-run crash.

Florida highway patrol says Johnson and her pup were crossing the street at McGregor Boulevard and John Morris in Fort Myers when the vehicle struck them.

Johnson owned Shaggy to Chic Grooming in Fort Myers.

Fox 4 asked businesses nearby if they had any surveillance footage of the accident, and for comment, sadly they did not.

But for one woman who works nearby Johnson was more than just her dog groomer, she was a good friend.

“ I was there all the time with my dogs, I’ve known her like i said more than seven years, so it’s just a real big shock, Lynn Adelson, server at Citrolas Italian Grill.

Adelson says Johnson was passionate about caring for pets and she had a gracious heart.

“She loved animals she took pride in her work she was an awesome groomer and super lady she talked to you all the time, she knew every single thing about a pet that you needed to know she was well informed just like a vet “ said Adelson.

Adelson also says accidents in the area happen here all the time, and something needs to be done.

Investigators now believe they have a description of the vehicle that failed to stop.

They are looking for a Nissan Passenger car, light in color.

If anyone has any information regarding the vehicle, driver, or the crash, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Crime Stoppers.
