Four residents escape early morning apartment fire in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Fort Myers Fire units responded to an apartment fire in the city early Thursday morning.

This happened around 2:30 a.m. at the Park at Murano apartments on Matthew Drive, which is just off of Summerlin Road.

Battalion Chief Chris Bevan was on scene, he said the fire started in the kitchen.

The mother told firefighters she awoke to smoke inside of the apartment and then ran outside with her children. 

A smoke detector was found inside of the home, but it was not working. Fire officials say the family is fortunate they woke up when they did.

He said there were 4 people living inside; 2 adults and 2 children, all 4 were treated for smoke inhilation.

Florida Power and Light crews also showed up. 

They said they did not have to cut power to the building, but did have to turn power off inside the apartment.

Fort Myers Fire/Rescue said no other units were affected.
