Dry season approaches in Florida, be prepared for wildfires

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Dry season in Florida is approaching and the state’s forest service wants to make sure you are prepared because there are ways to protect your home and family from wildfires.

Experts said the top three causes of wildfires in Florida are arson, burning debris and lightning.

Wildfires occur all year around in the Sunshine state.

So far, more than 93,000 acres of land burned in 2018.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has current wildfire conditions posted online.

The forest service suggest several tips to keep you and your house safe.

They also provide a checklist showing everything you need to do and know in case of a wildfire.
