LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Both lanes of Buckingham Road were shut down Monday morning after a crash involving a school bus.

The crash happened near the intersection with Bird Road around 5:04 am.  All lanes were blocked for about an hour and a half, but one lane was later opened to alternate between north and southbound traffic.  All lanes are now open at the scene.

No children were on the school bus at the time of the crash.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a Kia SUV was headed northbound on Buckingham Road when he says he dropped his phone.  55-year-old Leroy Rogers tells troopers he reached down to pick the phone up, and when he looked up all he saw was headlights.

He is facing charges of driving on wrong side of the road, seatbelt violation, and no insurance.  He was taken to Lee Memorial with serious injuries.

The driver of the bus was also taken to Lee Memorial as a precaution.

Lee County Schools tell Fox 4 that another bus has been dispatched to cover the route.
