FORT MYERS, Fla. — Motorized scooters are all the craze in major cities around the county...Fort Myers and Midtown could be next?

Some are loving the new trend, and others say it is causing more havoc than good

In the city council meeting this coming Monday, council members will discuss if they should take preventative measures to ban the scooters.

Fox 4 spoke to a local athlete who’s experienced riding the scooters in other cities. He says he’s all for bringing them here to Fort Myers.

“It brings more to do and allows a new way to travel, and just allows people to have a little bit more fun,” says Gaven Hoover.

Local business owner Jena Amodea is always in tune to the tourist population, she says it allows for them to cover more grounds, and maybe even bring in business to the community.

“If you're not from around here and you just want to get around and check out the town, its great for visitors,” says Jena Amodea.

But there were some people with a little more apprehensions, as there have been reports of many injuries on the scooters.

“It would be a great thing, as long as they had the rules to keep people safe,” says Jordan Burton.

Chris Edge has lived in Fort Myers for years and is all for it, as long as it doesn’t become clutter in the streets.

Give it a fair chance but just make sure that you have everything in line with respect to what you're going to do with them when there isn’t anyone using them, and again just making sure that you manage the number of them,” said Chris Edge.

Sanibel and Naples have already made motions to prevent motorized scooters.

Next week's city council meeting will give us a better sense on whether downtown Fort Myers and Midtown will follow.
