FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. --- A new resort might be heading to Fort Myers Beach.

The developer, TPI, presented the final form of their proposal for a new resort along Estero Boulevard on Tuesday.

"This is a whole new project from our first go around," said Tom Torgerson, who presented the new project at the meeting. "We did a year of public outreach and input to mold something that addressed most of the public's concerns.

The developer heard the worries about the size of the resort, the parking, and congestion.

"Traffic is the worst thing here on this island," said Bob Hart, as him and his wife enjoyed the beach. "They should address parking first," he added.

Torgerson says they scaled back the size of the project in order to preserve the quaint feel of the town.

"We have a quite a few acres of land along the beach," said Torgerson. "We tried to keep the buildings to a minimum," he added.

Torgerson says the development team tried to strike a balance on how they approached the project.

"It's definitely going to die without investment," said Torgerson. "But at what point is it over investment and it changes the charm? I think we hit the right cord," he added.

The next phase of the project is up for a vote next month. The developer is confident they'd be able to break ground as early as January 2019.
