LEE COUNTY, Fla.—Deputies are warning everyone about a "smishing scam" that is making the rounds in Southwest Florida.
Deputies say people are getting text messages, claiming to be from Regions Bank. The text is alerting the victim of an invalid charge on credit or debit card.
However, law enforcement says, it is not the bank texting you. It's scammers trying to get you to hand over your card number, or other sensitive information.
Deputies want to remind you-- legitimate companies will never ask for this type of information through text.
