Lee County Deputies have taken a large amount of narcotics off of the streets.

Deputies say they had been investigating Mark Francis Walker and his girlfriend Magoli Murphy for two years. They arrested the couple this week. Walker and Murphy are both facing charges for drug trafficking and possession. Deputies say the couple had been in possession of two pounds of Fentanyl, a powerful opioid.

Fentanyl is a lethal opioid that has been responsible for a large number of opioid overdoses in Southwest Florida and across the nation.  As little as 0.5 milligrams of Fentanyl can result in death.

Deputies tell us, "over 90 Americans die on a daily basis from Opioid overdoses." Lee County Deputies have made controlling the opioid epidemic a major priority.
