Death of Fort Myers Police officer mourned in Southwest Florida

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Heavy hearts all across Southwest Florida this weekend for his family of Officer Adam Jobbers Miller and the Fort Myers Police Department as they mourn one of their own.

Video taken outside Lee Memorial Hospital on Saturday night shows an American flag hanging overhead as more than one hundred officers stood silent in salute for their fallen brother.

Viewer Gary Snow took the video and shared it with Fox 4.

He says Officer Jobbers-Miller's body was wheeled out with an American flag draped over him.  He was put in an ambulance, then was escorted to the medical examiner's office.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office took video of that scene, showing a birds-eye view of it all with dozens of patrol cars with their flashing lights.

Another video was from Sunday’s procession as the officer's body was taken to a Fort Myers funeral home.

Snow says it broke his heart to hear Officer Jobbers-Miller's mom crying for her son.  "When they brought his body out and the family came out, and just the mother, when she started crying it was just so sad.  It made everyone breakdown."

As the family moves on to their next phase of grief, so does the Fort Myers Police Department, surrounding agencies, and the community.

Florida Senator Lizbeth Benaquisto writes: "My heart breaks for the family of officer Jobbers-Miller as they have lost their loved one all too soon. Prayers are with family and friends as they mourn this tragedy."

State Representative Dane Eagle writes: "Rest in peace, Officer Jobbers-Miller. My prayers are with his family, Fort Myers Police Department, and our entire law enforcement community for losing another of their own to a senseless attack. Justice will be served."
